Appliance repair in Dallas

Dallas appliances face both ends of the thermometer: hot summers that strain refrigerators and freezers, especially in garages, and occasional hard freezes that can freeze water lines feeding ice makers and washers. If an appliance stops working after a freeze or an outage, check for frozen or damaged water lines before assuming the appliance failed.

Common repair requests in Dallas

Also available everywhere: all appliance services and urgent safety steps.

After a hard freeze

  1. Check refrigerator water lines, ice maker supply, and washer hoses for cracks once they thaw — frozen lines can split.
  2. Open the water supply slowly and look for leaks behind the refrigerator and washer.
  3. Run a short washer cycle while watching the hoses.
  4. Expect the ice maker to take a day or more to restart.

Garage appliances, summer and winter

Refrigerators and freezers have a rated ambient temperature range on both ends. In a Dallas garage, summer heat can push a unit past its upper limit, and a hard freeze can drop it below its lower one — some refrigerators stop running their compressor when the room is too cold, letting the freezer warm. Check your manual before relying on a garage unit year-round.

Outages

During the February 2021 winter storm, much of Texas lost power for extended periods. Outages are restored by your electric delivery company — Oncor in much of Dallas–Fort Worth — not your retail plan provider. Afterward, check food temperatures and restart appliances one at a time.

What affects repair timing and cost in Dallas

  • Statewide events like hard freezes and long outages can create a backlog of repair requests.
  • Gas service is common in the area, so dryers and ranges may be gas models with ignition parts.
  • Freeze-cracked supply lines are inexpensive parts, but water damage from them is a separate cost.
  • Providers set their own diagnostic fees; ask whether the fee is credited toward the repair.

Before a forecast hard freeze

  1. Find the shut-off valves for the refrigerator water line and the washer.
  2. If a garage refrigerator or freezer isn't rated for cold, move perishables inside.
  3. Keep the garage door closed to hold some warmth.
  4. After the freeze, open water valves slowly and watch for leaks before running the ice maker or washer.

Common questions

My ice maker stopped after a freeze. Is it broken?

Often the supply line or fill tube froze. Once everything thaws, check for leaks and give it 24 hours. If water still doesn't reach the ice maker, the inlet valve or line may be damaged.

Why did my washer stop filling after a freeze?

The supply hoses or the valve screens may have frozen or cracked. After they thaw, check for leaks and kinks. If water still won't enter, the inlet valve may be damaged.
