Oven and stove repair in Houston

Most Houston ranges fail for the same reasons as anywhere: igniters, elements, sensors, and controls. What's different is storm season. Gas ranges that were flooded must be inspected before use, and any gas smell means leaving the home and calling for help from outside.

Gas safety first

Act now

  • Smell gas? Don't use switches or flames. Leave and call 911 or CenterPoint Energy from outside.
  • Don't relight or use a gas range that was in floodwater until it's inspected.

After a power outage

Modern gas ranges need electricity for electronic ignition and oven controls. When power returns, reset the clock, then test one burner and the oven. If burners click but won't light, start with the checks in our gas burner guide; if the oven won't heat, see oven not heating.

Tip-over brackets

Safety

If your range was moved for cleanup or flooring repair, confirm the anti-tip bracket was reinstalled.

Cooking during and after an outage

  • Never use a gas range or oven to heat your home.
  • Never run portable generators, grills, or camp stoves indoors or in a garage — carbon monoxide risk.
  • If burners light with a match during an outage, follow your manual's instructions; skip it if the manual doesn't allow it.

Common questions

Is my gas stove safe to use after a hurricane?

If it wasn't flooded and there's no gas smell, it's usually fine once power returns. If it was flooded or you smell gas, don't use it — have it inspected.

Do I need to reset my oven after a Houston power outage?

Usually just the clock. Some ovens won't heat until the clock is set. If the oven shows an error code or won't heat after that, request a diagnosis.
